I Get it Now

As I opened my eyes this morning, the words of my 1993 Intro to Psychology instructor came to me: “Life is not about getting a job. At the pearly gates, when St. Peter asks you “So how was it?” What are you gonna say? “Well, I got a job.”
At the time I was poor, frequently hungry, and decided on going to college to get out of poverty. “Easy for you to say” I thought. “You have a job”. I was hell bent on reaching my goal of getting a decent wage. My whole world was about getting a job and getting paid.
To some degree, I knew what he meant, but that was back burner stuff as far as I was concerned. Something I could think about once I was making money.
So I got the degrees, got the job, made my money, and had my breakdown/breakthrough. This morning I opened my eyes, had a memory and said, “Okay, I get it now.”
